Facial steaming infuses your skin with moisture and enhances and accelerates the benefits of skincare products you use after it.

Facial steaming is a timeless beauty practice that has been cherished for its remarkable benefits for centuries. The combination of warm steam and carefully selected herbs or essential oils can transform your skincare routine into a luxurious and rejuvenating experience. In this extended discussion, we will delve deeper into the art of facial steaming, explore its historical significance, and unveil a wide array of herbs and essential oils that can enhance your steaming sessions.

The Timeless Tradition of Facial Steaming

The practice of facial steaming dates to ancient times, where it was considered an essential beauty ritual. In ancient Rome, public bathhouses featured steam rooms, allowing individuals to steam their bodies and faces. Similarly, ancient Chinese and Ayurvedic traditions incorporated facial steaming as a holistic approach to skin health. These practices have stood the test of time, highlighting the enduring value of facial steaming.

Herbs and Essential Oils: Nature's Allies in Facial Steaming

One of the most enchanting aspects of facial steaming is the ability to infuse the steam with the aromatic essence of herbs and essential oils. These natural elements not only enhance the sensory experience but also offer a wide range of therapeutic benefits for the skin and overall well-being.

  1. Rosemary: Known for its anti-aging properties, rosemary has been revered for centuries for its ability to stimulate circulation, improve skin elasticity, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The aroma of rosemary is also invigorating, awakening the senses during your facial steam.

  1. Lavender: Lavender is a versatile essential oil renowned for its calming and soothing effects. Incorporating lavender into your facial steam can help reduce stress and promote relaxation. Additionally, lavender can benefit your skin by reducing redness and inflammation, making it an excellent choice for sensitive skin types.

  1. Parsley: Parsley is a natural astringent with powerful healing properties. When used in facial steaming, it can help treat acne, tighten the pores, and promote clearer, more radiant skin.

  1. Geranium: This floral essential oil is a natural astringent that balances oil production in the skin, making it suitable for both oily and dry skin types. Geranium's pleasant scent adds a touch of luxury to your facial steam.

  1. Eucalyptus: Eucalyptus is renowned for its respiratory benefits. Adding a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil to your facial steam can help relieve nasal congestion and promote clearer breathing. Eucalyptus is also effective in treating acne and promoting skin health.

  1. Fennel: Fennel boasts a high concentration of antioxidants, making it an excellent choice for combating signs of aging. Its aromatic qualities can create a calming and soothing atmosphere during your facial steam.

  1. Chamomile: Chamomile is celebrated for its ability to soothe irritated or sensitive skin. Its gentle properties make it suitable for those with skin conditions like rosacea or eczema. Chamomile's fragrance is also calming and helps ease stress and tension.

How to Create a Healing Facial Steam

Cleaning and exfoliating your skin with a facial scrub before a facial steam is a crucial preparatory step that sets the stage for maximum benefits.

This initial cleansing removes surface impurities, makeup, and dead skin cells, allowing the steam to penetrate deeper into your pores.

The gentle exfoliation provided by the scrub also helps to dislodge debris and bacteria that may be lurking within your skin's surface. By combining the power of cleansing and exfoliation with a facial scrub, you create a clean canvas for the steam to work its magic, ensuring that your skin reaps the full rewards of this relaxing and rejuvenating treatment.

To create your own rejuvenating facial steam, follow these steps:

  1. Select Your Herbs or Essential Oils: Choose the herbs or essential oils that align with your skincare goals and sensory preferences. You can use dried herbs or add 1-2 drops of essential oil, depending on your skin's sensitivity.

  1. Prepare Your Space: Find a comfortable, quiet spot where you won't be disturbed during your facial steam. Gather a bowl or sink filled with hot water, a big, fluffy towel, and a chair.

  1. Skin Preparation: Before starting your steam, pull your hair back to keep it off your face and cleanse your skin using a gentle exfoliating cleanser. This will ensure that your skin is ready to absorb the full benefits of the steam.

  1. Steam Session: Pour 4 to 6 cups of boiling water into the sink or bowl. Wait for the water to cool slightly to avoid burning your face. Sit down, drape the towel over your head and the sink, and hold your face about 10 cm above the water.

  1. Control the Heat: Adjust the distance between your face and the water to control the level of heat. Lift a corner of the towel if it gets too hot, allowing cool air in as needed.

  1. Enjoy the Steam: Let the warm steam envelop your face for 5 to 10 minutes. Take this time to relax, unwind, and enjoy the soothing sensations and aromas of your selected herbs or essential oils.

  1. After the Steam: Gently rinse your face with lukewarm water and pat it dry.

  1. Hydrate and Nourish: Finish your facial steam by applying a hydrating and nourishing facial cream. Consider using our Kakadu Plum Facial Cream, infused with certified organic Kakadu Plum extract, the highest Vitamin C-rich fruit on the planet. This nourishing antioxidant cream intensively hydrates and replenishes the skin, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles, leaving your skin revitalised and healthy.

Hi Bee Facial steaming can aggravate sensitive skin so I would exercise caution. You could try low heat and for shorter times to see how your skin finds it. Also the skin around your eyes is more delicate and thinner so its best to use an eye cream around your eyes. We don’t have an eye cream yet but its on our horizon! I hope that helps :-)

hi. I have sensitive skin and broken capillaries on my face. Will steaming make the problem worse. Also can I use the kakadu plum moisturizer around my eyes as I am having trouble finding a good eye cream that does not irritate my eyes. Hope you can help
