How to Fade Age Spots and Pigmentation Naturally

Age spots, liver spots, sun spots, brown spots, pigmentation...whatever you choose to call them, have a way of popping up uninvited.

Most commonly found on the face, hands, chest, and shoulders, these flat, dark patches are caused by sun exposure, UV light, melanin production, tanning beds, or simply our skin’s natural evolution over time. In some cases, sun damage can increase your risk of precancerous patches like actinic keratoses, so it is essential to monitor any changes.

But here is the good news. You do not need invasive treatments like chemical peels or laser resurfacing to reduce their appearance. There are gentle, natural remedies that help even out your skin tone while honouring your skin’s integrity and journey.

Let’s explore skin-loving ways to support your glow without compromising comfort or your values.

Another ingredient to look out for is Bakuchiol, it  works to enhance your skin complexion and radiance. It deeply diffuses into the skin cells to reduce the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

Bakuchiol is a hero ingredient in our award winning Skin Revival Serum.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil, derived from the seeds of the jojoba plant,
is rich in vitamins E and B-complex, as well as essential fatty acids, jojoba oil penetrates deeply into the skin, replenishing moisture and promoting cell regeneration.

The presence of natural antioxidants in jojoba oil may help to combat oxidative stress, a key factor in the formation of age spots and hyperpigmentation.

Jojoba oil is a special ingredient in our best selling Kakadu Plum Facial Cream.

Lemon Myrtle

Lemon myrtle is renowned for its potent antioxidant and antimicrobial properties which make it a promising ingredient in skincare formulations for skin radiance and even skin tone.

Antioxidants play an important role in helping to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and pigmentation & to protect the skin from harmful UV radiation, which can accelerate skin ageing.

2. DIY Natural Remedies Worth Trying

Prefer an at-home approach? Many natural remedies can support brightening and tone improvement. These are not overnight fixes but can enhance your routine with consistency.

If you love a simple, at-home approach, there are natural remedies worth trying. These aren't overnight fixes, but they can support an overall brightening routine.

Additionally, practicing sun safety measures can help prevent their recurrence.

It's important to note that age spots take years to form, so fading them will likely require patience and consistent effort. Give one of the remedies below a try for a few months, and if you don't observe any improvement, you can explore another option.

The good news is that many of these natural remedies are likely already in your fridge or pantry!

1. Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera is a commonly used natural remedy for various skin issues, including age spots. Apply aloe vera juice or gel directly to the dark spots for 30 minutes in the morning and evening. Rinse with lukewarm water and follow with your favourite moisturiser.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar contains natural alpha hydroxy acids that can help lighten age spots and get rid of age spots. Mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and water, apply to the dark spots, rinse with lukewarm water, and moisturise.

3. Castor Oil

Apply a small amount of castor oil directly to the age spots in the morning and night. Massage it into the skin for a minute or two until absorbed.

4. Lemons

The citric acid in lemon juice acts as a natural bleaching agent. You can either apply a slice of lemon directly to the spots for 10 minutes, morning and evening, or dilute 1 tablespoon of lemon juice with 1 tablespoon of water and apply using a cotton bud. Rinse and moisturise afterwards.

5. Papaya

Mash ripe papaya and apply it to clean skin where the age spots are. Gently massage in a circular motion for added exfoliation.

6. Sandalwood

Massage a drop of pure sandalwood essential oil directly onto the age spots.

7. Watermelon Rind

Rub the rind of a watermelon on your age spots, then wash with lukewarm water and moisturise.

8. Cucumber Juice

Crush cucumbers and apply them to your face for 10 minutes before rinsing and moisturising.

9. Olive Oil

Morning and night, apply a small amount of olive oil directly onto the age spots and massage it into the skin for a minute or two until absorbed.

These natural DIY remedies may not yield immediate results but can be effective with consistent use over time. For very dark spots, it may take longer to see noticeable improvements.

If you have sensitive skin, exercise caution by patch testing your chosen DIY recipe or diluting it with more water to reduce the risk of irritation. 😃

Please note: if you observe irregular, dark spots that are increasing in size or undergoing changes in colour/texture, it is advisable to consult a doctor to rule out any potential signs of skin cancer.

3. Never Skip Sunscreen

Treating pigmentation without sun protection? That is one step forward, two steps back.

UV exposure is one of the main triggers for pigmentation and age spots.

Try this:
Our Pure & Natural Facial Sunscreen SPF 50+ offers mineral-based, broad-spectrum protection with Kakadu Plum and Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate and nourish.

No white cast. No toxins. Just radiant, protected skin.

Pawpaw and papaya are not the same species. Pawpaw is native to the U.S. and papaya is tropical.

Hi I had a skin tag over a month ago and dermatologist saids it was keratosis which could be cancerous and should be removed or frozen
So I Egan to apply apple cider vinegar daily a few times each day. I was amazed after usage of 2 weeks and 2 days. (16 days) it fell off and skin is clear. There is some flat skin spots next to it that I am continuing to use my apple cider and caster oil regimen
But wow I am a believer
